Paul Michael Levesque born July 27, 1969 is an American professional wrestler, actor and WWE executive, better known by his ring name Triple H, an abbreviation of his former ring name, Hunter Hearst Helmsley. He is the Senior Advisor to WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon and Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events & Creative.
In his role as EVP, Talent, Live Events & Creative, he oversees the talent relations and talent development departments, training of WWE Superstars and Divas, and management of worldwide recruitment and live global events. In addition to his talent and live event duties, Levesque has continually had an integral role behind the scenes. As a director and producer he works to shape the creative direction and storylines of WWE’s programming.
Levesque was born in Nashua, New Hampshire. In his youth, he was a fan of professional wrestling and his favorite wrestler was Ric Flair. Levesque started bodybuilding at the age of fourteen and after graduating from high school in 1987, entered several bodybuilding competitions. He was crowned Teenage Mr. New Hampshire at the age of nineteen. During this time, he met Ted Arcidi who pointed him in the direction of Killer Kowalski's wrestling school. Levesque enrolled in Kowalski's wrestling school in 1992. He made his in-ring debut on November 1st of the same year wrestling against Flying Tony Roy. Levesque joined the Independent Wrestling Federation (IWF), which used trainees from Kowalski's school in their promotion. There he became the IWF Heavyweight Champion and started using the name Terra Ryzing.
Before joining WWE, Levesque began his professional wrestling career with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1994, wrestling under the ring name Terra Ryzing and later as Jean-Paul Lévesque. Levesque joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1995 with the on-screen persona of wealthy sophisticate Hunter Hearst Helmsley. He later abbreviated his name to Triple H and adopted an alternative image in the stable D-Generation X (DX). After the dissolution of DX, Triple H was pushed as a main event wrestler, winning several singles championships. As part of a storyline, Triple H married Stephanie McMahon, who later became his real-life spouse. In 2003, Triple H formed another stable known as Evolution, and in 2006 and 2009, reformed DX with Shawn Michaels.
Levesque recently oversaw the development of the state-of-the-art WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL, serving as the new home to WWE’s talent developmental system, NXT. Equipped with a 12,000 square-foot world-class training facility with seven training rings and 5,500 square-foot training room, the new Performance Center will give WWE the ability to train more potential performers than ever.
In addition to the new Performance Center, Levesque has helped expand WWE’s global presence to more countries than ever before. Under his guidance, WWE reached new milestones in 2012 by holding live events in Abu Dhabi, Russia, Egypt and Brazil for the first time. WWE held a total of 66 live events internationally in 2012 across 12 tours and 24 different countries, with plans for another 66 live events in 23 countries in 2013.Levesque is one of the most prolific performers in WWE history. He is the national spokesperson for Muscular Dystrophy’s “Make a Muscle, Make a Difference” campaign. On WWE programming, he has captured every major championship, headlined thousands of WWE events, and entertained millions around the world. Outside of WWE, Levesque’s charisma, professionalism and unparalleled commitment to excellence have propelled him into starring roles in commercials, television programs, the talk show circuit, feature-length films and as author of Making the Game: Triple H’s Approach to a Better Body.
In October 2014, Levesque was elected to the Board of Directors of the Sports Legacy Institute, which was renamed the Concussion Legacy Foundation in September 2015.
In December 2014, Levesque was named Editorial Advisor to Muscle & Fitness Magazine.
In February 2015, Levesque was elected to the WWE Board of Directors and serves on the Executive Committee.
In March 2015, Levesque was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame.
In January 2016, Levesque became a 14-time champion after winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble.
In September 2021, Levesque suffered from heart failure and an ICD was installed in his chest. Due to his newly discovered heart condition, Levesque announced his retirement from wrestling during an appearance on First Take on March 25, 2022. On April 3, he introduced the second night of WrestleMania 38, subsequently leaving a microphone and his wrestling boots in the ring to signify his official in-ring retirement. He later expressed a sense of being at peace with his forced retirement, stating that he "did everything [he] wanted to do and then some".
On September 6, 2022, WWE announced that Triple H was promoted to chief content officer of the company.
Following the completion of WWE's acquisition by Endeavor on September 12, 2023; Triple H continued to serve as the head of creative for WWE and started going by his real name alongside his ring name
He has a sister named Lynn and is uncle to her two children, Peter and Neysa. He has three nephews by marriage, which are Shane and Marissa McMahon's children. His parents are Paul and Patricia Levesque who still live in Nashua.
Paul married Stephanie McMahon on October 25, 2003. Together they have three daughters - Aurora, Murphy & Vaughn.
